Housing
Housing Options for International Students in Taiwan
On-Campus Accommodation
University dormitories are often the most convenient housing choice for international students. They offer close proximity to campus, are generally more affordable, and provide a safer environment. However, there are a few limitations to consider. Dorm rooms are typically shared with other students, space may be limited, and en-suite bathrooms are often not available. Additionally, not all universities have enough dormitory space for every student, so it’s important to check availability with your university’s International Office before arriving in Taiwan.
Off-Campus Housing
Renting a private apartment offers more flexibility-you can choose a location and living setup that best fits your lifestyle. However, this option usually comes with higher rental costs. Factors such as location, building condition, room size, and whether the space is furnished will influence the rent. You can choose to live alone or share with others. Always review the rental contract carefully before signing, and if you have any concerns, consult your university’s International Affairs Office or Student Affairs Office for assistance.
Light a Match, Meet a Family (LMMF) Program
The Light a Match, Meet a Family (LMMF) Program is a non-profit host family initiative supported by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education and organized by the Network for International Student Advisors (NISA) at Feng Chia University.
This program offers international students a valuable opportunity to engage in cultural exchange and build meaningful connections with local families. It’s a great way to experience Taiwanese hospitality and culture beyond the classroom.
